Okta Sign-In Widget Customization

Dear Team,

We are using Okta Sign-In Widget in one of our products. With reference to the Okta Sign-in Widget Guide, We are able to achieve the user Sign-up, Sign-in, and Forgot Password functionalities. We are aiming to customize the UI page as per our requirements and designs. As per the guidelines, We are able to change heading, labels, and customize help links on the Widget. However, the following are our concerns we are seeking your assistance in:

  • We would like to add/Remove some fields or use placeholders for each field on the Widget’s Sign-in & Sign-up page. Is there a way to customize the fields/contents and their appearance on the Widget’s Sign-in and Sign-up pages?

  • Can we load Widget’s Sign-up page as primary and Sign-in as a secondary page? meaning, On loading the widget, Can we show a Sign-up page first to the user instead of Sign-in?

  • Reset password functionality sends a reset password email to all users. But, it allows resetting passwords to only account Administrator.

  • Is it possible to disallow users from signing up with personal email addresses like gmail.com, hotmail.com, live.com, etc

Note: We are using the Okta developers’ account.

I would really appreciate any help.

Thanks!

Hi @samkamurti

  • We would like to add/Remove some fields or use placeholders for each field on the Widget’s Sign-in & Sign-up page. Is there a way to customize the fields/contents and their appearance on the Widget’s Sign-in and Sign-up pages?

For the sign-up page, you can modify the fields from your Okta administrative dashboard under Directory >> Self-Service registration (or Users >> Registration if using the Developer Console interface).
Regarding the sign-in page, new fields would require a modification inside the sign-in widget’s code. You can find the source of the sign-in widget here.

  • Can we load Widget’s Sign-up page as primary and Sign-in as a secondary page? meaning, On loading the widget, Can we show a Sign-up page first to the user instead of Sign-in?

We don’t have an option out of the box to display the sign-up page first, however you can leverage afterRender() to simulate a selection of the sign-up page.

  • Reset password functionality sends a reset password email to all users. But, it allows resetting passwords to only account Administrator.

This setting can be changed from the administrative dashboard under Security >> Authentication >> Password >> your users’ policy >> your users’ rule. Inside the rule, you can enable self service password change, reset and account unlock.

  • Is it possible to disallow users from signin?

You can set up specific rules under Security >> Authentication >> Sign On to allow only a few users that respect certain conditions to authenticate.
