Is there an API to create or update approval sequences in Access Request conditions via Okta Workflows?

Hi Okta team,

I’m working with Access Requests in Okta and need to manage approval sequences through Okta Workflows. While I’ve found APIs that allow me to list or retrieve approval sequences, I haven’t been able to find any API that supports creating or updating the approval sequence for a specific access request condition.

Is there an API available to perform this operation, or is it currently only possible through the Okta UI?

Thanks in advance!

Hi @kirann9679: welcome to the forum!

Today, there is no such API. We would like to add such an API in the future.

Thanks @maxkatz!
I have raised a feature request.

This is an important feature that should be prioritized. A simple scenario as follows:
Ability to call delegated workflow from approval sequence to check if requester is executive level, if so, auto approve request. Otherwise, require manager approval. This seems basic in terms of features that are commonly needed for automation. Another scenario, ability to reassign approval task after certain time elapse in case a manager is out of office. At least, any ETA on when this could be available? Because, the product isn’t user friendly without these basic functions. Our team have to manually monitor for incoming request for c level executives and people out of office. And creating two separate request types for executive and a different audience have URL redirect restrictions because you can’t link to two different request types from a service portal for example. Please consider prioritizing these basic needs because I am having hard time answering to our leadership on something they consider simple to do. Doesn’t look too good for Access request as a whole.

Hi @Tekterra: welcome to the forum.

Okta has some of the features on the roadmap you mentioned. To learn more, consider attending the OIG office hours.
