Help me understand the pricing model... a few questions

I’m trying to get my head around the pricing model in particular for MFA

First, on this page https://www.okta.com/pricing/ I see MFA starts at $3 per user per month.

Then on this page https://developer.okta.com/pricing/ I see MFA is included in the “developer” tier, starting at $20 month for up to 1k users.

I also see the Enterprise tier has “Advanced MFA”.

My questions…

  • Is MFA available in the free pricing tier? (I assume not, just checking)
  • Is the pricing per user cumulative depending on features, for example UD = $1 per user, UD + SSO = $3 per user
  • Is there a concise summary of the feature differences between MFA and “Advanced MFA”?

No

Is the pricing per user cumulative depending on features, for example UD = $1 per user, UD + SSO = $3 per user

That is pricing for the IT product, employee SSO, end-user app chiclet

Is there a concise summary of the feature differences between MFA and “Advanced MFA”?

MFA is TOTP (Google Authenticate for example), and security questions
Advanced MFA is the rest of the MFA options (okta push, voice, u2f, sms, email, touchid)

The main reason you would pick the IT product is that you need the Okta IT Product (employee provisioning, deprovisioning, end-user chiclet page / application dashboard, all the policies for managing employees)

The main reason you would pick the developer product is you are building an application on top of Okta as a platform. You are interested in OAuth 2.0 and API support. The developer product has limited policies compared to the IT product (geared towards application development).

If you pick Developer and attempt to use it as an IT Product to save on MFA cost, you are going to have a negative experience because it is a different product.

Hopefully this makes sense.

Hi Tom,

I could see provisioning, MFA can be enabled using developer product and i dont see any difference between IT free trial product and developer product except expiry date. IT product expires in 30 days but developer product, no expiry.

Could you please clarify and help me in understanding the differences.

Thanks in advance!
