Locked out of Okta Dev Account

I have upgraded my phone and no longer have access to my old one so I cannot complete authentication using Okta Verify. I am able to log into my dashboard, but when I attempt to remove and set up another device, I am asked for the Okta Verify code. I have also tried to reset my password and I am met with the same prompt to enter a code from Okta Verify.

I reached out to the Okta Community alias community@okta.com and was pretty much told that if there is no paid support for dev accounts then the only option left is to sign up for a new developer account. The issue is, my business email is tied to the one I am currently locked out of. So, any other suggestions would be great.

To update this thread, it was recommended to me that I send a request in to decomission my org. This has been done but the business email I used is still synced or tied in the system somehow so I am unable to register a new dev account/org. I have been told to contact another group within Okta to get my data completely removed. This is such a painful process to continue supporting development on this product.

Hi there,

This is likely related to the changes we’ve been making to require admins to use a 2nd factor when accessing the Admin app (as announced on banner on this forum and the following article).

If you have a paid account with Okta, you can reach out to support (via phone, since you wouldn’t be able to log into the support ticketing system) for assistance.

If this is a Developer Free org, unfortunately, support will not be able to assist you to reclaim access to this account as doing so would be a security liability. In this case, your only option would be to create a new org. Currently we have no easy way to remove your existing email from our system to allow for creation of a new org with the same email, so you would need to use a different corporate email when signing up for your new org.

Apologies for the inconvenience this may have caused you.
